Our client, a Further Education College specialising in land-based training, is looking to recruit an Administrative Assistant to responsible for provision of a range of administrative and student service functions at Capel Manor College’s base within Barking College’s Rush Green Centre.

About the College

Capel Manor College based in Greater London, is a Centre of Vocational Excellence for Horticulture, Landscaping and Garden Design, Floristry, Business Enterprise, Animal Care and Saddlery.

Description of duties

Reporting to the Student Registrar, main duties and responsibilities:

  • To provide advice and guidance to all prospective users of the College facilities to include students, lecturers, course organisers and members of the public.
  • To provide administrative assistance to Capel Manor College tutors based at Barking College.
  • To provide students with assistance with accessing learning resources (Library and IT facilities).
  • To respond to and process enquiries by telephone, e-mail, letter or in person.
  • To be conversant with the system procedures for all college enrolment processes (in liaison with the Student Registry at the Enfield Campus).
  • To liaise with Student Registry in processing course applications (arranging interviews, dealing with queries and inputting data onto the College’s computerised information system) and enquiries about student support (including learner support funds and  EMAs) .
  • To liaise with Barking College staff regarding the timing of resource deliveries for college courses offered at Castle Green.
  • To assist with receiving and storing resources, including fresh flowers.
  • Any other duties of a comparable nature as required.

Experience / Qualifications

Successful candidates will need the following:

  • NVQ2 or equivalent in Business Administration or Information Systems
  • Experience of working in an administrative/PC environment
  • Good administrative and organisation skills
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Computer literacy
  • Good telephone manner and communication skills
  • Effective team worker
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to manage own workload and prioritise
  • Flexibility and able to work well under pressure.
  • Ability to work on own initiative
  • Friendly manner
  • Commitment to inclusive and comprehensive post-16 educational provision

It is desirable for candidates to have the following:

  • NVQ3 equivalent in Business Administration or in Information Systems
  • Previous FE or HE experience.
  • Experience of using CMIS
  • Clean Driving Licence

Start Date: ASAP

Hours: 15 hours per week, 3 hrs each day from 8.45am to 11.45am (Some flexibility can be offered concerning hours).
