Eastleigh Borough Council’s Countryside Service manages 300 hectares of land on 27 sites, ranging from small urban woodlands to large SSSI’s, which, in total, receive over half a million visits per year.
The Temporary Countryside Ranger, working from Itchen Valley Country Park, will assist with:
- Site inspections, maintenance and repair
- Acting as Duty Ranger at either Itchen Valley or Lakeside Country Parks on alternate weekends
- Habitat management
- Providing information and advice to visitors, and assisting in running events and activities for the general public.
On weekdays normal office hours generally apply, but evening working on up to two days per month may be required, and a flexible hours system is in operation. The hours of work at weekends and on Bank Holidays will be 10am – 5.30pm.
Applicants must have a good general education. GCSE or equivalent in maths and English is essential, and an HNC or higher qualification in Countryside Management or other relevant subject is desirable. Previous paid or voluntary experience is essential, and applicants without specific relevant qualifications should have at least 1 year’s relevant paid experience. Good verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as is a full clean driving licence.
